I think it depends on what your friend wants. Something he can handle, something with more color, something nearly impossible to kill, etc... Leos, cresteds, various anoles, day geckos, etc could all be good choices.

How big of a tank would be good for a Crested Gecko? I was thinking a 20g high but I don't know too much about them.

I have a few babies in a 10 g turned to the side to make it tall , but once adulti seen pairs in 20 g's

What are their temps and should they have a heat lamp or a pad to maintain it?

room temp is fine for crested geckos as long as it does not get to cold.

They have a temperature gradient from the mid 60's to about 80 F. Temperatures in the high 80's on up can stress and kill this species.
