I am new at this fish keeping thing .My dad is getting me a 55 gallon tank. The only problem is I want to put fresh water sharks in it , but I'm not sure what I should get. I want to get some that are agressive, but my mom said thhey can NOT be killers.Can someone help me out by posting something.

Why do you want something thats aggressive? I think getting fish just because they are aggressive may be the wrong reasons. All fish are killers though. Even the tiny ones eat fry(baby fish), worms, bugs etc... And even ones that are not known to be carnivorous may kill. For example some chinese algae eaters or plecos may like to suck on fish slime off another fish and kill them eventually.
 
freshwater sharks arent really sharks at all. if youre thinking balas or red-tails, these are more like minnows that get really big. i've never had one but i believe they can be kept together but get more competitive as they get older, bigger.
 
Red Tailed Black Shark, or RTBS, are very aggressive, and should only be housed with fish of similar temperament. It is a great fish however, if you consider it's temperament. Freshwater sharks aren't true sharks, but they are great fish. One RTBS with a few pictus cats might make a great tank for you.

My wifes tank with her 12 varying types of labeo sharks (six are RTBS), is awesome. They school, and for little hoodlum gangs. It's great cause they are all small compared to the 10" bala shark. HAHA they can't do anything to him, but spook him out.
 
i got a RTBS in my tank with my snakeheads and a zebra loach. All of them are said to be semi aggressive. The RTBS is the least.

If you're looking to get something aggressive get an oscar. They're pretty cool but you might be lookin to upgrade your tank
 
We can't get Snakeheads around here anymore. But I have always had Red Tail sharks in with my blood parrot's.

You could go with Silver-tip sharks, also known as the Columbian sharks. They are varacious eaters and are always active. They are brackish so if you are new to fish keeping you would have to do alot of research on brackish water fish before purchasing them. With them you could also get a FW puffer, Leaf-fish, needlefish, theres alot more but you will have to take size and tank size into consideration. Most of the sharks species like previously stated are simply large minnows. The best thing to do is to go and research several fish you would like to keep, and if you have a knowlegible Local fish store close go and tell them your situation and see what they recommend. Theres alot of really cool fish out there and a 55g is a great starter tank to get you started on MonsterFish Keeping.

Before you buy anything, read about cycling your tank, otherwise your going to have a very discouraging experience.....Personally for a 55 I would get a Green Terror, awesome looking fish, good personality, and agressive, but not generally not overly agressive.....:hypnotize
