If you are considering starting out with small fish, DO NOT go with White Cloud Minnows! They are PIGS! They NEVER finish eating and produce so much crap that the tank gets disgusting! They are hardy fish and can live through this, but it looks disgusting! They are really nice fish, charming, fun to watch, etc etc but they are SO messy. I suggest syphoning TWICE a week. They never finish all their food, yet STILL produce so much crap,:confused: it looks like lake mud. They are great fish to have, but be willing to do maintnence. Be willing to do ALOT of cleanup!

Then dont overfeeding them, its not their fault. Still they are best beginner fish IMO and I would still recommend them for beginners if they want small fish. Next time dont claim the WCMM as bad beginner fish.
 
the food you feed and how much you feed them is the problem they areually quite clean from my experience.

Hmmm, this is strange, i have a group of those 6 in a 30 with some bluespotted sunfish, a small obesus, a blackbanded sunfish, and 2 small corys, and dont have that problem i feed the tank, at least one a day with staple food and once with freeze dried blood worms, the black banded likes that. and the little cats clean up whats left if anything, But i dont throw in a handful at a time.
 
They are not too bad, but danios will forever be better
 
This sounds like a bunch of personal preference, with not much basis in facts. How about some input from the experts on here, Cmon guys chime in earn your extremely large paychecks
 
I have 7 of WCMM in my java moss 10gal tank and they dont make much messy. I only fed them 3 or 4 times a week with just few pinch of either flakes or dried bloodworms. Also theres cherry shrimps and snail act as cleaner crew...and because my tank is unheated, they dont need very much feed.
 
Heh, it is the aquarist who is at fault for the amount of wastes produced. Fish cannot control their appetite. Aquarists can however control their twitchy fingers over feeding the fish too generously.;)
