Heh, it is the aquarist who is at fault for the amount of wastes produced. Fish cannot control their appetite. Aquarists can however control their twitchy fingers over feeding the fish too generously.

You nailed it. Feed the fish less and problem solved.

If you are considering starting out with small fish, DO NOT go with White Cloud Minnows! They are PIGS! They NEVER finish eating and produce so much crap that the tank gets disgusting! They are hardy fish and can live through this, but it looks disgusting! They are really nice fish, charming, fun to watch, etc etc but they are SO messy. I suggest syphoning TWICE a week. They never finish all their food, yet STILL produce so much crap, it looks like lake mud. They are great fish to have, but be willing to do maintnence. Be willing to do ALOT of cleanup!
