Beginner Lizard?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i started off with anoles for about 4 years then got 1 bearded dragon, then 2 more and im only 14 now, i am gonna breed my beardies, but i am waiting for the 2 year mark. but beardies can be more difficult to breed than blue tongue skinks. i just say this because they are live bearers, that means you don't have to worry about incubators, or egg laying bins it is just a lot less complicated, but if tou are not breeding, all of the mentioned options i think would be a good choice. i dont know much about anole or lepoard gecko breeding but have fun with your choice. dont be too eager to get it and you can never do too much research. i made a bad misake with my first beardie, so when you have decided on a lizard post what kind, and we will tell you what you need for setup. ther are soo many options have fun!

i dont know if it was mentioned yet or not but day geckos are actually quite easy to take care of but they arent the type you handle if you want to handle should do the leos...

a great hadling pet would be a leopord gecko. if you want somthing a little bigger go with a blue touge skink not hard to get pretty easy to care for i think it needs about 40-60 gallon i might be roung thought. bearded dragons are good too. horded toads are not the easyist at least when i kept mine.

Leos are NOT great handling pets. Decent, but not great. Especially for beginners or with young children around. Blue tongues are industructible when it comes to handling, and almost seem to enjoy it.

leopard geckos are by far the easyist to start with.

The ones that live outside?

not everyone has lizards running around outside, wish i did but thats what i get for living in the midwest

Easiest doesnt mean best dude. Yes, leos ARE just about the easiest pet around. Id rather havea slightly harder but infinately more fun pet than an easy one I only see like once a week.

The question was what's a lizard that's easy to keep, feed, and breed. It had nothing to do with "what's the best lizard for handling?"

Besides, if it's easier to keep, why wouldn't it be better for him to get one since he's never had a lizard before?

I just did a quick google search on blue tungued skink and found this:
-They are omnivores so they'll eat anything
-They reach about 12-24" in length but it take 15 years for them to reach full length
-They like to dig
-Need basking temps at 75-85 degress
-Need a full spectrum of lights
-Need a place to hide eventhough they aren't skittish
But, I do have a few questions about them:
-How long can they live?
-How much space do they need?
-What kind of feeding sceduale do they need?
I'm sure I'll think of more and I might still back out on the blue tungue idea.
Thanks,
Corban
