Eh... even though they are omnivoures... they will take meat over veggies, and most are stubborn to eat their veggies. They get fixed on their favourites REALLY easy.

And BTS don't really need UVB. Any problems with them can be traced to their poor diet usually.

They usually need at least a 55 gallon if you are keeping them in aquariums. Humidity can't be too high either. I usually keep them at room humidity and they do fine.

They can have between 20-25 years I believe.
 
I think BTS get longer to about 18 inches. And it does not take them 15 years to do that... Ferthermore, they live in Australia.... Its HOT their, I would have a far higher temo basking spot 100 atleast. A 55 gallon is far to small IMO, go with a 75, but a larger floor space would be better.

a 40 gal breeder would do fine with a BTS lots of floor space, unlike a 55. a 55 is only 12 inches wide, a 40 gal breeder is 18 inches wide by 36 inches long less wasted vertical space as in a 55. breeder tanks are the best for ground dwelling animals because they have a lot of floor space and less wasted vert. space.
 
You will almost never see me recommend a good caresheet, but they are out there. Read the http://www.bluetongueskinks.net caresheet, ask on the forums, look at species profiles, and talk to breeders like Andrew Seike.

You arent supposed to go by the books, though. Just find a fair amount of good, solid, basic care info. Stick to it, and go from there. Youre supposed to have fun!
 
Dude, BTS will rip each other to shreds. Even if they appear to 'love each other'.

Agreed with TBI. One animal I will agree doesn't particularly need UV if been giving the right diet. Not like Chinese Water Dragons eh Loco ;)

Good on you for the one right bit of advise I think I've EVER seen you give though, BTS's ripping eachother apart.
 
Lets leave this thread clean of a huge monster cursing debate... We already have what, 4 of them?

Yep. A lot of people will keep them together for months, until Gizmo is suddenly fingerless and Buddy looks awful fat. :)
