My tank is at a steady 7.2 and my ray is eating like a pig :cool-1:
 
im just gonna say goodluck with findin a histrix ive been lookin forever and since they cant be imported right now the ones you will find are gonna be eathier long term captive or cb and your gonna cost a good chunk of change...colin said he would pay $300 for a good sized female so prob $150 and up
 
I saw 5 histrix the other day at my lfs. Histrix are as common as motoros here. I always see them here. I would recommend motoro. Motoros are for beginners. You can house a motoro in a 135g for less 2 yrs. And then you need a big tank.
 
Are you sure they were histrix? Alot of people have rays labeled as "peru histrix" and end up being humerosa, orbs, or even motoros.

All rays will grow pretty fast considereing they eat a lot. Keep doing weekly 50% water changes will only help the process too. A lot of people say that rays need to be in lower PH water, but I have had them in PH as high as 7.8 with no problems. Just as long as the water params stay constant and not always changing it should be ok. Do be careful with specimines that are wild caught cause those might be tougher to accilmate to harder water. CB ones though will most likely take to harder water fine. I have that stingray book too and it has some good info. Also some good sites to check out for info:

would a pair of motoros be able to live live in a 300gal rubbermaid pond measuring 63"L x 69"W x 25"H. I could grow them out in the 135 and move them to the pond
