As long as you're fine with killing your fish it's good to use. These aren't meant for use in water.

Is their a reason? Pot scrubbies are meant for filter use either.

No, but they are meant to be used in water. The furnace filters won't hold up to use in water and will break down, releasing fiberglass particles into the tank.

These include bio-balls, ceramic rings and canister media. Biological media works on the principle of providing a suitable surface for beneficial bacteria colonies to grow. When choosing a bio filter look at the filter media included and choose a model with as high a specific surface area as possible.

Haven't seen any reference to these;

Sold on Ebay as nylon yarn scrubbies. I inadvertantly bought them, thinking they were the other type. Any reason they wont work?

They should be fine. Sure hope you didn't spend a 1.15 each, scrubbies you should get six for about a dollar.

I did. Spent an entire day going through every store in town that may remotely carry scrubbies and never found 1. So had to resort to ebay.

I've read the entire thread and I am still wondering if the scrubbies are a good choice for a canister filter??
