so are u sayin i should replace my filter b4 my cycling goes any further??

yes I would if I were you.

ok jus got back home from my cuzns house
but b4 that i went out to the lfs
the test results that they gave me was in their words:
pH: ~7.5
ammonia: little to no traces
nitrite: less than 0.3 mg/l
and then they told me nice job
i dont kno y they didnt tell me the nitrate lvls
but i was wondering if i need to get a reading

and about my filter they didnt have it in stock but i went and ordered an Aquaclear 70 but i was wondering if it was a good filter upgrade from the one i currently have?

The AC70 will be a great filter for that tank. I don't use the aqua clear filters myself but I do beleive they are the most popular HOB filter on MFK. I would post a new thread on how to set up the AC70, I beleive most guys don't use the carbon insert and add the bio max for extra Beneficial bateria growth. I would also check with your LFS to see if they have the biomax in stock, if they do buy it and slip it into that penguin filter so you can start building bacteria on it. Once the AC70 comes in move the biomax into it.

ok first thing after school ill check for that biomax thing ur talkin bout
hopefully they have some in stock
i wanna make this tank close to perfection
so i can gain the courage to bigger and brighter things...and cooler fish hehe

btw how much do those bio max things range in price
im runnin low on cash and wont get more money til the end of the week

You don't need to buy the bio max. The AC filter should already come with media. Just run your AC filter concurrently with your penquin filter for about a month. This will seed your AC filter with beneficial bacteria so you won't have to cycle over again.

They should be less than 10 bucks, if ya can't get them don't sweat it. How long will it be until the new filter comes in? How long have you had the tank running with the peguin?

Two things that are a must, Don't buy any new fish, ya gotta get this tank cycled first. Don't wash, rinse or throw away the filter cartridge you have in the penguin, without the bio wheel this is where your bacteria is gonna grow.

As shanefish said; be patient,it really is your best option,

shouldn't he get some real rocks to up the hardness o da water?
i just thought that africans needed that. i've never kept them so im ol\nly sying hat i've heard. also supposedly you can keep kuhli loaches with africans but i would think that they would get eaten. "Spaghetti anyone?" lol
also everyone on here seem to have that same rock arch, ha lol
