Being Picky?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I work at my lfs, I get to cherry pick my own. It's easy as no one wants Monsters at the store I work at.

Beside healthyness of the fish which just about everyone mentioned. I usually take 10-20 mins observing a fish behavior before I commit to a buy. Especially, if the fish is $25 or more. I look for the deep dark color and the pick out the one with the patterns I like. Oh ya, I never go to beat up fish with messed up fins or missing eyeballs. I know some of you feel sorry and pick these fish out but for me I like show fish.

online all you can do is ask around for reputable sellers, and make sure if you buy from an auction site that the seller has excellent feedback.

i mite have few fish but i know it toke me probably 30 min to pic my bichirs and about 45 to get my FH. and i know when i got to get my tetras for my new 10G that will be an all day thing hehe :D

i recently bought a beat up chocalate cichlid but the other fish he was in the tank with was overly aggressive. Got him for half price and now he looks amazing. That's the rare exception.

I always watch the tank, and am very picky about which fish I buy. Maybe that comes from working in an lfs, I know that just cuz the fish come in together doesn't mean they're all gonna be in the same health.

I've always been picky about my fish...from my monsters to my guppies. Except for feeders of course.

I just wonder cuz when I was working in a pet store...no one picked their fish. They were like, "one of these fish in this tank."

I am extremely picky about what I buy. I go into a store with a set mind on what I am expecting to see and want and what sex. All the LFS know this when I come in lol. They know that I am soo picky I don't even let the new employees even touch the fish. I only let people I know get the fish out of the tank. I watch the fish for about 15mins determine the sex, diseases and such and how it reacts with everything in the tank. LOL I remember one time I went into a favorite LFS and of course their were all new employees working that day and they had no clue about anything because they were still being trained and I went to the manager and asked him can I get the fish out myself and he said go right ahead I wouldn't trust the new employees either LMAO!!
