How awful. I stopped at their place when I was there in '04 when it was just being built. The Roses are really nice people. What a shame. I sure hope they do rebuild the sanctuary.

The old Mayan beliefs are still very strong in that area of Belize. Many people their are still stuck in the past.

Yea and it's very unfortunate because then things like this happen. These people are trying to rescue animals that hardly anyone cares about and this is the thanks they get by the locals.

What a bummer. I hope this doesn't stop them from their conservation efforts in the long run though. Hope they get back on their feet.
