I shore do the same thing, except I use salt. :) Ich cure is the last resort right now...lol. I don't think I'm going to bump the temp up THAT high though. Wow! 86 is high enough for my likings!

86 didn't do anything with my last outbreak. I had the tank up to 86 along with dosing meds. After a full run of meds, the pikes were starting to show a few spots, so I abandoned the meds and took the temp up to 90-91. THAT and salt finally made a difference.

I've read that med and heat-resistant ich is becoming more common...not good news for our fish.

The heat does not kill the ich just makes them metamoprph faster as they are only vulnerable during their free swimming phase...

:iagree: Thats where lots of waterchanges come in. Removing the free swimming buggers!! The salt kills some of them, but its mostly to help with the fish and respiration. Helps calm them down and stuff...:)

I had i small cause of ick with 1 inch uaru befor also, but never lost any. They got it right after i bought them.
As soon as i noticed it, i raised the temp. to 89F and waited for the ick to fall off the uaru to reproduce in the sand. as soon as they seemed to clear up a bit, i knew the ick only fell off the uaru to reproduce and would have came back even stronger and in more numbers, so thats when i treated with ick cure. Ick is suppose to only be effected by treatment when they are in the free swimming stage. Raising the temp. only speeds up there life cycle. After 48hrs of this treatment (50% water change daily, and a new dose of ick cure each time with high water temp maintained.) the ick was gone and never came back. Maybe this will help oters with ick and uaru.

already was mentioned

For those that think belly crawlers are boring pikes, I got a little suprise last night. I was feeding some homemade frozen food, and was holding a 3" long piece in the tank to let everyone get a chance to get some before the pikes took off with it. Well, one of the female belly crawlers decided she'd like the giant worm outside of the water better. So she launched herself out of the water and bit my pinky! No damage done, of course. My pinky is bigger than her mouth. It was just funny...I saw her looking at my hand, then, before I even had time to react, she was up and out!

That's awesome!!

I had a big oscar do that once. It really takes you by surprise, doesn't it?

Totally! She was busy ripping shreds off the frozen chunk with everyone else, then I saw her just totally stop dead and look up. I had just long enough to think "Nah, there's no way she'd be stupid enough to try to hit my hand" and wham! She may only be 6", but she hit hard! Good thing for me that she's too small...otherwise I might be minus a little skin! :WHOA:

I do love my belly crawlers.
