now again, i am only giving you last resort stuff...but interestingly, i just saw a local china LFS guy do something quite unique.....

he just brought in a new shipment and a fish was belly up but alive....

here is what he did.....

hold it right side up - and begin the gently massage and squeeze it -- basically burping it or encouraging it to release air.....

i thought he was doing it quite "ruff" but in about 10 seconds, the fish swam away and was 100%.....

Good idea...beat me to it. :irked: :grinno:

I've seen some asian LFS people do that...and there'd be some bubbles coming from the fish's anus..and mouth.

If its been anesthetized it shouldn't take that long unless the OD'd the bags with it (finquel..etc..). Usually when shipped like that...it shouldn't take more than 2 hours for the fish to be completely clear of it, providing the fish is placed in a new container with fresh water that is close to the params of the "container".

I think someone mentioned the needle technique...thats a last resort. If done wrong..you'd end doing more harm..possible killing the fish.

Under certain circumstance it may be your best choice...only you can make that decision.

Good luck.

how to burb your arowana:

- hold fish vertically (head up towards surface)
- have your kids hold the lower region close to the tail, gently swaying the fish back and forth
- take your 2 hands, and run up the length of the fish, starting from the belly, or wherever it is "bloated"

i don't know the size of this fish - but i take it, it has some girth, don't be afraid to massage using some strength (given it is a hardy sized aro)

again - squeeze/massage, and run up the length of the fish, probably up to the 2 "wings" of the fish.....

make sure your kids are gently swaying the fish at the same time....

hope it helps......just trying to help.....hopefully not hurt.....

you can do it yourself.....one hand holding and swaying, other hand squeezing.....

aro's are "thick" fish - don't be afraid to exert some force, obviously not too much to harm the fish though......

and "if" it works - be ready to have a fish explode out of their funk.....

no result...no air came out and belly does not seem bloated, actually soft..

when I hold her she is calm breathing...i feeel the upwards pressure against my hand..when I let go its like a bottle ful of air, she has no way she can resist that upwards surge...

keep doing it.....don't be afraid to use some force i say.....

if you can actually feel the upward pressure - then there is no question it is air.....

air will rise out of her - if you continue - at least i hope......

gotta keep her vertical though.....

on another note:

do you see a bulge on the side of just behind the pectoral fin and slightly below the lateral line?

that is where a "bulge" would be, not the actual belly region....

if so, it is definitely the air bladder

to you, thecoolguy.

Miguel, buena suerte con su pez. Good luck with your fish.

If it is breathing calmly but not able to swim it is a swim bladder problem. Probably not unusual since it was shipped by air. A few of the fish have this right? It is daytime in Singapore now. Why dont you just call them for advice?

I would take the chance and let it recover on its own.
I have used a needle on Frontosa before which was easy but not necessary as it would have recovered in a few days anyway.
