Yesterday I decided to finally move my chocolate cichlid to my 110 from a 30 gallon growout. Had him since he was only 2in. He freaked pretty bad when I was trying to net him for transfer and I'm pretty sure he smacked his head on the lip of the tank. When I put him in the new tank he looked dazed and disoriented and eventuatually just went to the bottom breathing hard. He passed away in minutes. Anyone have a similar experience. This really sucks.

I posted a topic of my nicaraguan male dying. EXACT same. Only mine was freaking out against the sides of the tank hard...

That does suck. I have not lost a fish while moving it, but have had many a scratch.
Can be a tricky business.

You guys know of any techniques maybe? using two nets? Idk I wish I woulda thought it over before, but I transferred so many fish without a problem never thought about it. Really sucks to lose a growout.

I drain the tank to around half, and use two nets. Also I remove any decor just to avoid further injury and even then they lose scales.

I don't do this but it's an idea get a PVC pipe big enough for fish to swim into and put a cap on both ends to keep the water in and transfer them like that. Just I wouldn't use too much force when putting one cap on because it will be hard to get off
