Had a grow out Delhezi Bichir jump out of net onto concrete floor So I no exactly how you feel.

Turn all the room lights off at night, wait for the fish to fall asleep, then net it or scoop it up into a bucket/bowl before it wakes up. They're sitting ducks when they're sleeping. This is how a lot of Amazonian fishermen catch discus and angels -- spotlight them at night with a flashlight, put a net in front of their face, and touch their tail. They swim right in.

Haven't had an experience like yours, but I'm really sorry this happened Chocolates are great fish and so interesting, especially as they grow from tiny babies and change colors. I'd be devastated if anything happened to mine.
