If poop got in direct contact with bio balls, would the poop still get eaten, or would it just muck things up?

it breaks down into ammonia and other wastes but ammonia is what were most concerned with.
the bacteria does not eat poop it eats the bi product of the poop.
and no you do not want solid waste on your bio balls as they will get clogged and have less surface area.
