Benefits of sand vs. gravel?

i just put in pool filter sand it makes your tank much cleaner just trust me its worth it and clean it very well tho
i enjoy sand more... i think its cleaner and it makes the tank look nicer.. opinion depends
but i do know that sometimes the sand will get caught in the filter and make a louder noise.. its not a large problem.. you fix it by shaking it out or cleaning it out.. it usually happens when sand is first put in

no real upside or downside to either... all depends on what the fish enjoy and what you like looking at..

all comes down to how often you clean it.. gravel hides poop/food/whatever better than sand does.. but just cuz you cant see the dirt does not mean its not there
Well I do like the look of sand a lot, but only the black sand, why do you have to stir it? I read that it goes bad if you don't stir monthly?
Also, where would you get black sand cheap?
