That's the problem with hbo and fight night. Stop showing garbage. Only show big fights and it's get close to getting back to where it belongs. On top of the sports world

yep ... duk koo kim vs. boom boom was a wide world of sports broadcast . that might have been the all time fight of the 20th century (they really did fight to the death) as far as hbo I DONT MIND WHAT THEY DO ...BUT THE PROMOTERS have to get network tv back into showing BIG fights... leonard ,hearns ,holmes, the spinks bros. ALL got popular cause you could see em 3 times a year for FREE... that made ppv easier to buy .....here is a great story ,about the times ...back in the EARLY 80's HBO WAS not availible in a lot of households, aaron pryor and alexis arguello were the hot fighters of that era (along with others),we got to see them FREE ,a lot... boom boom vs. arguello was a cbs saturday fight, so when the two got together for a "SUPERFIGHT",a bunch of my friends and I RENTED a hotel room w/ HBO ,just to see the fight, the hotel was near the airport ,in a lower income neihborhood ,and low and behold the whole place was filled w/ fight fans renting rooms to watch the fight... it was one big party:headbang2 the moral of the story is ...if promoters really want to market boxing, give us some fights between good fighters on network(or basic cable) tv... we will follow to PPV if we have a rooting interest, but promoters have decided that ppv is its own (monitary )reward... I am afraid thats the near future of the game:(

Good points and story Lee...Take pro wrestling on TV...Just about everything that takes place during the free television programs are geared toward building interest for the big PPV shows and those shows still sell well after all these years due to episodes on the free shows.

^ those 2 get it. yes people still watch and there's pay per view purchase for super fights but the days of what you guys are talking about is why people have a right to say its dead. I want THAT. Not to browse the Internet to know what's going in.

yep ,wrestling " gets it" they tailor their brodcasts to the average fan.. who wants to watch a good show.. then when PPV comes along the fan has enough intrest in the sport to put up some coin for the BIG fight..boxing needs a promoter whos main goal is the betterment of boxing ,not getting rich in the shortest time possible(DON KING..BOB ARUM,,)... AND IT is tough to have to pick up a ring mag. just to find out what the results are from your fav. fighters last fight:(

I used to by the boxing mags when I was a kid(long before the internets lol) and the problem I remember having with them was they were so late with the news by the time they hit the newstands and store shelves....The latest issue was about two months behind.
