personally, I like to keep algae eating fish because I like watching them; I keep SAEs, otos, bushynose and clown plecos, etc., and I think my tanks are more interesting because of them.
just keep in mind that whatever you get, they will also contribute to your tank's bio-load, and they may need supplemental feeding beyond just tank algae
I think it is too. This tank has been set since about July. I did a 50% WC yesterday and scrubbed most everything except the gravel.
