What do you guys recommend for a good algae eater pleco that grows no bigger than 8". Thanks.

I recommend you figure out what the root cause of your algae is, and not just try to fix the problem with another fish.

chinese algae eaters are the best for the size... i think they may grow to 3". i would definilty check what the problem is if you and just now encountering an algae problem... did it get moved into sunlight, is your filter clogged, is it saltwater?

chinese algae eaters get bigger than 8" and get very aggressive when large. I had one that got around 8" and if you do some research they get larger. They also stop eating algae when they get large.

I totally agree with you as my two are pushing 10". Since they have grown I have never seen them try to even eat algae. They just wait until I throw in some food.

I'm not trying to fix anything at the moment. I have been planing on a pleco for a while and was just wondering which plecos do the best at eating algae. I was planning on a gold nugget, but I've read they don't do much algae eating. What I do have is brown powdery algae (diatom). My tank has only been set up for about two months, so I think this is part of the problem. My last tank took about 10 weeks for it to clear up. Can this be avoided when setting up a new tank. Thanks.

dont get a pleco they pooop ALOt 2 and you seem lazy clean it have to do something
not just buy a fish.
