best algae remover?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
manually remove as much of the algae as you can. reduce your light and water changes to get the nitrates down. it will take time but you can get it out. unfortunately there is no fast way. don't overthink it and please don't start throwing chemicals in there. water changes help the most.

sorry meant to say "reduce your light and start doing water changes to get the nitrates down"

nitrates at or below 10ppm is ideal.

make sure your using RO water also. If not your prob just restarting the process with every tap water change. :(

Instead of bleach, I like to use H2O2. The 3% from the pharmacy works but the 35% from the health food store works really fast.

I'm a bit late to the party here, sorry... Whenever I want to clean something without using chemicals (ie, pretty much anything related to my tanks) I used boiled water & a brush (either toothbrush, wire brush or steel wool, depending). If it's something that'll survive I'll just throw it into the pot while the water boils (rocks, possibly your air stone if you think this is a wise move). I've even taken entire tanks out into the yard and hauled out buckets of hot water to clean algae & "stuff" out of the tank. Just gotta be careful with the glass & use a straight razor if necessary. But that's my recommendation. Hot water & elbow grease goes a long way!

Disclaimer - it's boiling water, treat as such & don't hurt yourself :nilly:

Hope this helps!
