Just another side note: Most places list incorrect tank requirements for keeping sharks.

ANY place that says a 37-42'' fish can live it's life in a 24'' wide tank is full of BS...

no offence but if you had done a ton of research you would know that even the smallest shark needs a minimum of a 3 foot wide aqauriam (namely marbled cats) although its very possible to keep pups and buy a larger tank. i am planning to do this with my 180 my plan is for my lfs to hold the shark while i set up the larger tank and use the old tank as a sump! my lfs owner and i have a good relationshiop as i spent about 3 years spending £100 plus at his shop every week lol although honestly i am very picky with my fish and will probably get the larger tank setup before purchesing the shark, i recomend an 8x4x3 or 8x3x2 for the begginer shark, admitingly not the average size tank you can just get hold of.. but a shark isnt an average fish and i believe they should be as hard to get hold of as the tanks to keep them in proparly are.

Personally - I feel that even small benthic species of sharks - should have enough room to replica a native type habitat in. For this reason - I don't think commerical built tanks/aquariums are the best way to display them. The largest commerical home aquariums seem to be in the 500-1,500 gallon range - but are usually no more than 4-5 ft wide. And those tanks can be between $2,500-$10,000 each.

Rather the best way - is in custom built aquariums or ponds, are much better suited for sharks - provided that it's adequete keeping the species of which it's designed for.
