Best bottom feeders with CA/SA's?

I think after searching, synos may be the way to go. They come in some nice patterns and colour variations. And hopefully they will keep my sand clean.

I just realized that you have Oscars. Well I know exactly how to fix the problem, get rid of the Oscars. :) They are dirty, messy, and they crap a ton.

Forgot about the raphy cat, I have one of those in my 300. Forgot about him cause I never see him. Cleans at night. :)

I feel the same. To be honest it is only the oscars that seem to make the mess. I just watched them eat and they must not get any food because it all comes out their gills.
The problem is they are very personable which makes it more difficult to get rid of them, i will have to have a think.

Oscars are so messy, I used to keep my pair of oscars with a Lima shovelnose. 50% of what the oscars ate comes out of their gills, and the catfish ate all of it. I recomend Lima shovelnose they are peaceful and fun to watch. Syno´s are good at cleaning at first but they get lazy. I had one that got huge and just sat in a cave all day, he also got really aggressive as time went on. he was the featherfin variety.

Right now in my 225 I have a single sun catfish thats doubled in size since I got him. this guy is ALWAYS fat. he eats non stop keeps the gravel clean and to clean the glass I have a flag tail Prochilidus who is munching away at everything 24/7.

My champsochromis Caeruleus puts a cloud of food out from his gills when hes trying to swallow about 7 pellets at once, but the other fish go mad for it, my GT eats it all up and so do the 8 columbian tetras I have. they started as dithers and cycle fish but they are great at keeping the food eaten.

Have you thought about snails? According to the snail experts they won't over run your tank if you aren't feeding too much.

Also, how big are your fish an what is the pellet size? It seems odd that there is enough time for food to hit the ground.

Food coming out of their gills all the time means the pellet you're feeding is probably too big; a correct sized pellet should be swallowed whole with no mess left behind. I've experimented with this and most of the times switching to a smaller pellet solves the issue completely. i.e. my 8" female festae was on 6mm (Jumbo) NLS thera a+ and every time she ate there was a cloud of crushed food covering the whole tank. I switched her to 3mm and it never happened again.

That said, Oscars are indeed messy and produce lots of waste. I remember mine at 5" took a dump that looked like an adult earthworm, I couldn't believe it. He went back to a LFS soon after that lol

Definitely would have to recommend a raphael cat, mine cruises the bottom at night sucking up anything that's left over. Although with my current school of tiger barbs, almost NOTHING makes it to the bottom  no wonder they all look like this (and that's one of the smaller ones) ps - he's about 2 solid inches and FAT

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Hoplo Cats. They are from South America, get about 6in and are a pretty active catfish. They are kind of like over sized Cories as they like to be kept in small groups as well...
