Hey guys!

Right shortly after chilristmas I will be setting up a new tank to transfer my Channa Pulchra Snakehead into as an upgrade.

What external filteration would be the best and most cost effective?

Tank isn’t huge it measures 80x30x40 which is 25us gallons or 100litres

Thanks

A 25gal tank is small enough for most all of the canister filters out there. You might want to look for something with a flow control valve if the current is too high.

also id look for something that is easy to clean, since you will have mechanical filtration as well as bio filtration in the same canister. (ie, the old eheim 2215 and 2217 were a pain to clean and a pain to prime.)

i purchased another canister that had filter baskets and a priming button and its great. It was a "cheapy", so the flow rate is optimistic to say the least. so i left both canisters hooked up. BUT on a 25gal tank, a lower than rated flow rate might not be that bad.

thats my 2-cents

My next filter I might try the oase biomaster range, the ability to slide the particle filter out for cleaning with out taking the whole filter apart and it can house a heater appeals to me.

Most cost effective would be a Chinese canister like a sunsun. I have used them in the past and had no problem for the couple years I used it (I had a 404b), and many others like them as well. However some have had trouble with them leaking over time.

A more expensive, but incredibly reliable option, is an eheim classic. I have a couple of them, current 2213 I am using I have had for over 10 years now, and in that time have only had to replace the impeller once or twice. Cheap and super easy repair anyway. The eheims can be a p.i.t.a to clean and re-prime, that is my single complaint. Overall eheims are a great canister.

Had not heard of these, just looked them up and that looks like a great design. Would be interested to see how you like it if you get one.

a cheap but good filter if been happy with is the cobalt canister filter .

So I’ve been looking at the JBL cristalprofi 402, read some good review and they’re not too expensive at all, have you guys had any experience with these?

Thanks for all the replies

These would also be a good option but I’m unsure if I can turn the flow rate down or not??

I had an oase biomaster very well built filter but after 6 months it would leak intermittently couldn't control the flow rate as it would leak . replaed it with an eheim professional 4 plus 250 on a 127 lt tank it is great and so quiet I had to look at the surface of the tank as I thought it wasn't on.

Just had a look at the Eheim, looks very good, do you know if they do one with built in UV?? Or any other filter that has built in UV
