Best catfish for 3'x10' footprint?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get a pack of gulper cats, you won't be able to keep a lot with them because of their huge mouth, but they look really cool. You could also do a school of Syno cats

I will look into them, thanks. But your saying I would need a 6' wide tank for a L.Pictus?

If talking for life, I'd say that it is possible your pictus will reach 2.5' total length... and then, the guideline I try to follow says 5' at a bare minimum. The length can remain at 10' but also at a bare minimum. This is just an opinion of me and many others from who I learn.

Yet, there still exists a plethora of keepers who'd go as far as to say the tank width can equal the fish length. Surely they may chime in and offer their views as well and that's fine and expected. It's your responsibility to choose. It's a free and friendly forum and it'd be nice if we kept it that way. I've been attacked before for simply offering my views as a direct answer to an OP's questions like yours... I hope we all can agree to disagree. I am not attacking or condemning anyone for their views and actions and try my best to not offer unsolicited/not-asked-for comments.

I'm not saying your wrong I just can't see anyone with a 5'x10' minimum for 1 leiarius, guess its the same with many fish though with the rtc being a classic example, widely sold and very, very few can give them exactly what they need but on the other hand I think all aquarium fish are kept at a compromise as none of us can match what nature can offer

Yea I really like both of them as we'll but I like the look of predatory cats more, I was hoping to add 1 of those 2 if I had room :p

They're a real treat to have! I haven't had the pleasure of owning my own Niger cat, but I have owned two Giraffe and they are a blast! They beg just like puppies, the one I had before my second one would come to the surface to eat from my hands... Man do I miss that fish. Either way, I think you'll make the right decision! I'll be watching this thread;)
