Best catfish vote

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Woah this is epic I love hearing about everyone’s views on different catfish and although this thread was set up as a voting place it has turned into a whole care guide of loads of unique and different fish. And after all of those comments the winner so far ( if I’m not mistaken) is the hoppalo catfish. Please do correct me if I’m wrong or have miss counted some of the votes. Thanks guys this has been so fun and I can’t wait for future comments which could change the results ?

Hi ,in Europe is popular heteropneustes fossilis.

I had the opportunity to keep some of these but I did not know much about them at the time and passed on them as a result. Quite an interesting catfish.

Not a Jelly, of course, but these ^ definitely are very cool little monsters. I had one (sadly, only one...) for years and it was shy but very interesting. It grew quite slowly; got it only a couple inches long and it only achieved maybe a foot in length over the next 5 or 6 years, despite having a very good appetite. Behaviour might best be described as a "shy Clarias". :)

This would be a great substitute mini-monster cat for aquariums that are too small for any of the true monsters. Apparently they are schooling fish and I think a group would make for a very distinctive and unique tank. I suspect that a group would be more outgoing and more visible.

Most probably know my vote ?… silurus glanis… most personable, interactive and surprisingly peaceful cat ive ever owned. Wouldn’t even eat live food if i tried… i had a handful of the reg. patterned as well when the 1st imports were available ??

Absolutely one of the coolest fish ever on MFK. :)

But...wouldn't eat live food? You should have contacted me back then; I could have provided you some live pigeons to try...;)

Since European catfish were brought up, I'll mention glass catfish. They are somewhat closely related and the glass catfish look even nicer IMHO.;)

Don't know of any other catfish which you can see right through either. ?

I'm not really a catfish type of guy, my limit with catfish is the good old bristlenose variety, lol.

But I once did own three stunning little cute as you like catfish which even my wife fell in love with at the store, so I took them home there and then.

But on researching them when I got in I found out, that in time, my entire stock was in mortal danger!!

I give you the gorgeous, yet potentially monstrous Columbian Cat Shark!!!

I owned these fish for less than 24hrs before taking them back!! Lol
