best cleaning fish iv ever had

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Otos and true SAE'e are hands down the best algae-eaters to be had for appropriate tanks/tankmates.
Nothing beats a shoal of Otos in a planted tank.

Certain species of Pleco do well in general but still need to be supplemented with their own diet, the bushynosed/medusa species seem to do better than most at maintaining algae IMO/IME.

We've a nice sticky pertaining to the proper feeding of Plecos here, http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42856&highlight=pleco+dietary

It has some great info...
I suggest you read it and take it to heart.

I love my ottos, but I've never kept one for much more than a year or so.
Planted or unplanted tank(s)?
They do much better in a moderately-heavily planted tank.

SAE and BN here.:) SAE cleaned out my black brush algae and BN cleaned the diatoms and green spot algae.:)

wait,Im slightly confused on one thing. Are CAE and SAE not the same thing?Im not sure which one I have now.

Ive really never even noticed the switching of the c and the s.Ive probably been talking about them in threads like their the same fish,LOL

my common pleco does a good job at cleaning the algea, but the mass that comes out the other end (poop), seems 10 fold more than what he cleaned LOL

yup BN= bristlenose plecs ie ancistrus sp.

There are a few different oto sp. that do have some differing sizes, if you can find them.

Umm ethnics you need to learn more about your fish. Many plecos arent algae eaters. Your Gold Nugget for example WILL NOT eat algae. They are in fact little miny preds and would prefer to eat worms and the such. I hope you enjoy slowly starving your fish to death.

Most "Plecos" are not even Plecos!!! As far as I know there is only one real pleco and that's good old Hypostomus plecostomus.
