Best color substrate to make cichla colors pop?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Currently I have pool filter sand and a black back. Maybe it's my light. Although sometimes they do look really impressive. Maybe I'm just being overly picky lol
What type of lighting? Post a pic.

I have a national geographic led. I like it a lot. Actually dropped it in the tank while it was on and it still works! Stayed lit the whole time lol

My light is 36" and my tank is 6' long. I tried a 48" light but it was too bright and not enough blue

Their colors look good to me, my water is just a little clearer than yours. Water clarity and clean glass helps as far as viewing your fish and taking pictures.
Thanks! Yeah after a water change is the best time for pics. It's been a week or so for me :P My Kels seem to have scales missing in some spots or something by the way it looks. Is that normal due to them pecking at each other?

Yea it's pretty normal they can be hard on each other sometimes but with clean water it grows back in no time. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

black planting substrate for me! eco complete" is not to fine and looks good"
blue background every time with black gravel as you don't wont to dark"

Black background, natural colored gravel, light spectrum as daylight and ph slightly acidic make them pop I've noticed
