In common language, especially talking about seafood, the words shrimp and prawn are interchangeable based on the respective geography, culture or dialect. People typically don't really eat shrimp, except those tiny things you might find in salad or cup'o'noodles. What Americans call shrimp, are really prawns.

I thought so. I can't take credit for writing the article. I don't know that much about shrimp and prawns. I mean, now I do, but I didn't before. That's the beauty of reading!

Thanks for sharing. I had it backwards my whole life. Lol. I still find it kinda weird that the Malaysian prawns in the river is actually shrimp... and what I normally eat are prawns. Next time I go to the north shore to get some Hawaii famous north shore style garlic shrimp... I'm gonna ask my friends if they wanna take a trip north for fresh kahuku prawns. It's gonna confuse everybody.
