best cure for mistreated fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As far as solutions and/or cures, start small, some kosher salt as I previously suggested. At this point adding meds, especially when you don't even know exactly what if anything you are dealing with, will just further stress your fish.

I don't know where you get some of your info from, but EBJD do not have any problem digesting pellets - unless one is feeding them pellets full of low grade ingredients. What do you think importers/vendors feed their EBJD, crushed powder from unicorn horns? Jeff Rapps fed his commercial catfish crumble, with no issues, when I bought my first EBJD years ago. Pellets aren't an issue, but genetic weaklings among this species is very common, which is why one seldom sees 9-10 adult specimens. Most die before they reach those sizes.

As far as severe stunting, the only thing I see is a slightly enlarged or swollen eye, exophthalmia, which could be due to a number of factors.
Thank you for the clearup I appreciate the time you took to help me understand what’s wrong with him

i went to pick some up so he could eat at his own discretion but all my local lfs were out
Would avoid any live food at this time esp from ur lfs. Would consider a pellet. Don’t feed a potentially sick fish with potentially sick feeders. Even if it’s not accepting food as the ebjd is just stressed. Wait it out.

This.

And yes, even water droplets can carry pathogens and bacteria. Sick animals, dogs, fish, etc, do not want to eat when they are sick. The last thing this fish probably wants to do right now is eat. You just got this fish, let it acclimate in it's new surroundings for a few days, and go from there. Any sudden change in its diet will only make things worse.
