I have a 100g that I want to make into a discus tank. I'm new to discus though. What type of discus are the hardiest? I'm going to try my best to keep up with water changes but I want to get a discus that's tougher than the rest too.

My advice for what it's worth is to have good filtration and weekly water changes. Works for me.
I don't do anything special and all mine are thriving.
My setup is a 450L planted with dogwood, filtration is x2 2180 Eheim and I water change about 30-40% usually on Sunday mornings.
The advise I was also given was to feed well and I firmly believe that if your fish are feeding well then they are happy.
Also I have 18 at present ranging in size, when I approach the tank they all surface for feeding, so much so that they will allow me to touch them, it's actually pretty cool :D
Start off with just a couple and slowly build up your collection, this also helps in building up your filtration. I hope i haven't taught you to suck eggs with any of my advice. Post pics if you decide to go ahead.

Sam.

discus are no different than any other fish. good food and very clean water is all they require. the question is not which discus but what size. juvies require many feedings and that means lots of wc's. bare bottom is probably best for easy cleaning. buying adults is the better way to go. my wild tank is my first discus tank. they were all 5"+. not looking to breed and they are doing great. I have always done 25% wc's per week thru the years but now it's 50% twice a week. give them prestine water, good food, compatable tankmates and you'll be fine.

And what an amazing discus tank you have too.
You might aswell post a pic to show the OP what he can achieve :D

Captive breed from Asia have been the toughest in my experince as well as darker colored fish. The lighter blues and white ones IME are the first to show signs of stress.

Otherwise as stated above good water and food is all you really need. They are less tolerant of bad water the others fish.
