Best discus for noobs?

IME all Discus are the same in the sense of keeping them, just do your water changes. If your beginning though, i would go with cheaper ones, something like a common cobalt blue or a normal pigeon blood.

I do my water changes as much as possible, i shot for every other day and do a 50-70% water changes. I've read 90% wc's are good every other day. As for food, fed them a variety and keep it bare bottom, much easier to clean. I actually tried giving them some neons as tank mates the other week and they just beat them up. Go for some cheap ones for starters, which isn't easy to find. As long as you keep up on your tank you should be fine with some real nice ones also.
