  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do the silver dollars eat alot? And what do they eat? The tin foils eat everything and anything. Alot of times they eat everything before the other fish get a chance.

I have silver dollars with my oscars. They eat everything that the oscars eat and let very little hit the gravel. I have seen them eat pellets, sticks and even beefheart that the oscars missed. They don't compete at the surface very much, but catch everything that is sinking.

Yeah some big silver dollars would work. I recently got a school of 4 for my tank. I just feed them flakes but they also grab just about anything that the pbass or Jack Dempsey leave behind. They are extremely fast and aggressive eaters, darting around to pick up any food floating around. I mainly decided to get them over other dithers like tinfoil barbs because they are south American like peacock bass, I like my fish to be from the same general area.

This is why I got rid of my school of barbs, they were eating more than the bass...

They can take a beating though, i'll say that.

What did you get instead?

I have an eartheater in there that took a massive beating (his eye looked like it was going to pop out and it was all jacked up) but some how has survived and is thriving in there.

I've gone through a bunch of other dither options to help clean up the tank of residual food particles but they try and kill everything i add to the tank...

Here's the latest victim, a 12" flag tail. this was a few days after i took him out of the tank. before that, barely anything left of his tail. Sad to say, he's no longer a "flag" tail :(

You can also see the other failed dithers (silver dollars) HAHAHA

Here's a pic of my failed dither tank.
