Best Eheim

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a Pro 3,2080. The Pro 3's may look cool, but that is about it. They are poorly designed, and do not work half as well as a Classic. A 2080 is good for a 75 gallon, and that's about it. A pretty expensive filter for a 75. I also have a 2262,excellent,excellent filter. Eheim Classics are great filters, don't waste your money on the Pro models.

Classics are easy to clean? I must be missing something. My 2217 is a bear to clean, I hate doing it honestly. My 2028 pro II is super easy to clean and prime. I greatly prefer it to my 2217. Don't get me wrong, the 2217 is a great filter. It works very well and is dead silent, I just hate cleaning the thing.
You turn it off, unhook the hoses,rinse/replace the pads, hook it back up,and your good to go. What do you find difficult with cleaning yours?

2260 has been discontinued... you think parts will stay available as i hear these filters can last a very long time(why replace if it works) how you like your pro 2 blue2?

Where did you hear they had been discontinued?

marine depot had it listed discontinued and couple other places had it out of stock.. looking for the best price.... :) yea so i guess 2260 it is or 62 ill read on them some more... THANKS EVERYONE.. if anyone knows of good deals please tell!!

http://www.aquariumguys.com/eheimcanister1.html 2260 for 232.98... u think i should go larger doesn't seem like enough? (overfiltration FTW at all times..lol) i will have a 140 gallon with 8" texas(might be FH hybrid) and pleco. also picking up a lima shovelnose and some more cichlids(undecided)... for anyone who says the lima should be in bigger tank.. my tank is a couple inches shorter than 150 but same length/width... it will be fine, if not i got a friend with 180 that would be down to take him... discussed it with him because there have been reports of them grownin over 18 inches but, most are at 16 or so that i have seen

can't find 2260 anywhere thats not 500 bucks... i did find couple sites for 250 but they sold out.. i'm going to call one tomorrow who isn't sold out but i can't click to buy... if everyone is sold out what you guys think about 2 2217's? thanks.. by the way the tank is a 125, i didn't get 140. thanks.

I have a 125g, with both a 2028 and 2262 at once, plus a HOB for extra H2O polishing. The 2028 is a superb filter, an awesome workhorse and a pleasure to use & to clean. It keeps on ticking, w/o issues, year after year. But it was not enough filtration all by itself, even for this community tank. So I added the 2262, which is really just like a simple 5 gal bucket with a good lid and an external pump. Problem is, its external Eheim 1262 pump is flimsy, and has cracked at the intake. But pump issues aside, having those 2 big filters works great. I only clean 1 at a time, months apart, and it avoids water problems.

I suspect 2x Eheim 2028 would do the job too.

ok well some you guys might kill me but after long thought i think im going to buy another xp3. The reason is is that my 75 gallon with only 1 xp3 looks crystal clear all the time like there is no water in there... the media baskets rock and they give you everything you could need.. i did want to experience eheim but i got such a good think going with the xp3 i figure ill run 2-3 of them on the 140...

what you all think?

yep, 2260 has been discontinued, but 2262 hasn't been yet. You can find a 2262 for less than 50 more than a 2260...at least a couple weeks ago. Honestly, I would just go with an FX5; you can find them for 200 or so shipped. I have 2 FX5's and I like them and I also have a 2260 and a 2262.

Just ordered Fluval FX5 for 262.80 with 2 day shipping in that price... will be here saturday!! It comes with three year warrenty from fluval which i hopefully won't have to use.... honestly there are some good reviews on this filter(some bad like any brand) so for the money and warrenty i'll give this sucker a go... and run it side by side with my xp3....:headbang2

Interesting that the XP3 is doing so well on your 75. I have 1 on my 75 by itself and I'm probably going to get it some help soon. I'm not having any issues with the water parameters, but the mechanical filteration just isn't there. I've tried the SuperMicro pads, which just ended up clogging in 3 or 4 days, but still didn't get all the particles out. So I'm going to add another canister, just not sure which one yet.

Eheim Pro 2 is very good but stay away the heater combo one. Eheim pro 2 provide better suction than the classic models. Those Xp3 might be good for now but for sure they won't last even close to a Eheim filter. The only thing you need to change for Eheim filters is the rubber ring. That should be it. All of mine run non-stop, heavy stocked for 5 years and they are all still dead quiet and strong like new. SIMPLY EHEIM THE BEST !
