 I have two eheims already that are from past models. Don't really like them because they aren't self priming and require a lot of regular cleaning. Anything under the new Professionel III line that anyone can bouch for? Don't really like eheim, but people out there say it's the best of what's available, so i would probably go for that over any other brand (fluval, magnum, cascade. Any suggestions

btw running 72 gal bow with large predatory fish.

there are alot of good filters out there my personal favorite is the eheim 2060 but rena xp's are good cascade are also good filters eheim pro II and pro III good fx5 is the only good filter fluval makes and don't waist your money on a magnum

i agree, the rena xp's have a lot of power for a cheap filter. easy to use and versatile. ehime's are really good filters from past experience and read that the new models are only better. alot intergrate uv or heaters, or even both.

Howdy,

"best" does not necessarily mean user-friendly. The best Eheims are undoubtedly the members of the "Classic" line. They are workhorses and live forever. Anything fancy added is potential trouble. (e.g. you will never have problems with a stuck power-window if your car only has manual windows). My 2080 (=pro 3) didn't live up to my expectations. Easy to operate and maintain, but just not a great filter.

My Eheims stand in a corner for more than half a year before I clean them. Priming is a two-minute job the most. Do you really need a self-priming feature considering you only use it ~4 min per year? :D

I"ll question anyone who calls an XP filter powerful. The 4 that I have are weak as hell IMO. They're messy to clean too. I may have to try an Eheim just so I can argue with HarleyK more often:D

I have an XP3 with the powerjet packed full of media and I think it is powerful as hell! its handling the load of some giant fish right now :)

are you guys sure everything is working okay with your XP's?

you can see the powerful output in this shot:

No, they're not ok. I'm comparing them to wet/drys:)

I can make a 20gph pump look strong when I let it free flow through a straw:D

(I'm just ribbing the XP3 fanboys:D They're decent filters, but they're far from wonderful)
