Best Eheim

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For longevity, the classics will stand the test of time. For power the Classic 2262 is the best. For ease of use, the pro 3 and pro 2 lines are both good. For all around user friendly models, the Pro 3e's are the best. Depends on what you need. I really like the pro 3e's but the classics are still going to stand strong against them.

If you ask 10 different people on this forum what the best filter is you will get 10 different answers so take every thing with a grain of salt and find out what works for you. A big part of this hobby is trial and error

very true.

for example, I much prefer the Rena XP3 to the Eheim 2215 that I had. The rena is more powerful, self-priming, holds more media, costs less and has better outlet options that are included.

but you ask the next person, and they will say the opposite.

its the way this hobby works. there are so many different products out there, and there are both good and bad eperiences out there.

Howdy,

"best" does not necessarily mean user-friendly. The best Eheims are undoubtedly the members of the "Classic" line. They are workhorses and live forever. Anything fancy added is potential trouble. (e.g. you will never have problems with a stuck power-window if your car only has manual windows). My 2080 (=pro 3) didn't live up to my expectations. Easy to operate and maintain, but just not a great filter.

My Eheims stand in a corner for more than half a year before I clean them. Priming is a two-minute job the most. Do you really need a self-priming feature considering you only use it ~4 min per year? :D

Exactyl!! It doesnt need to be fancy to be the best. Its really no wonder that as every other filter manufacturer has supercedded their filter line up Eheim keep producing the classic range. If the priming is the biggest bug bare next time your at an LFS check out the range of after market uplift kits. You can pick up one that have a threaded bung that you can remove and pour water down to aid priming(no more sucking up tank water). I actually hate the priming mech on my 2128, but the one on the Ecco range really is the simplest ive ever used, just a pity they dont do them in a much bigger size.

Personally I just get the upgrade kit for the eheims, and use that over priming units on all my canisters. Close the valve on the intake, and open the top of the intakes upgraded U joint. Fill with water, replace cap, open valve, plug in filter. You are done.
