My tank needs a skimmer. I've been looking around and still i'm indecisive about what to get. price range is about 0-300. will to go a bit higher if need be.

I need a skimmer I can fit on a shelf with about 1.5-2 feet of vertical space.

So MFK, what's the best brand for the price, and where can I get them? Some of you have told me ASM is a good brand, but I can't find external ones.

my bad, misread the question...

coralife super skimmers are pretty good

I'm with you ^ tunze makes some great skimmers, ASM does for hang on back also.

Ok, I'll look into it. The next problem would be installation. The only place I can fit anything in my stand would be on a shelf I would have to make next to the return of the sump. Would it be best to have the skimmer intake and return go into the sump? or have the intake of the skimmer take water from the sump, and have the return push the water to the tank?

Forgot to mention that shelf would have to be located over all my electrical. Major warning sirens going off in my head about that but there really isn't any room in there other than that.

Of course I would cover the electrical with some sort of plastic sheet to keep water away from it.

Yup, sounds safe...

Holy S***. Anything on a slightly smaller scale you might recommend?

Hmm. I don't know if the Coralife will fit in my stand if I have to put it on a shelf. I'm going to have to rethink my stand layout to make it fit...
