Best feeders to breed???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i guess my question is what kind of fish do u plan to feed with all these feeder fish i mean 3-4 times a week with feeders that seems like alot of live food to me. i mean do u have alot of piscavores?

the best feeder breeder by far (if you can get them) is the channa gachua. they have hundreds of fry and the fry double in size almost every day for the first couple of weeks, and feeding the fry, not to worry....the female feeds them with eggs--very cool to watch the pack of fry attack the eggs.
IF you can get them!!!

I do have one belly crawler pike that just LOVES live food. I've got two JD's and i'll probably pick up a managuense or two.. The feeders won't be the fishes staple, but I enjoy watching my fish eat feeders, and it is a good excuse to keep my other tank.

how many convict fry can be expected out of 55gl tank? enough for 2-4 feedings a week? sounds like a plan
a**** of a lot. I personally don't like to feed convicts, because they were the first fish I kept *sniff*, but once they get going, they'll breed like once a month, and the fry grow to a good size in one week with good water quality. You can put several pairs of cons in a 55 and stagger the breeding to keep it going.
Don't underestimate the babies, mine bred at under an inch long.

I agree with convicts. I use my fry as feeders all the time. They breed just about non stop, even with the previous spawn still around. There are usually a ton of them and watching the parents raise the fry is always fun.
