Hi, this is my first post in MFK.

I picked up a 13cm/5inch Jaguar cichlid (Unknown sex) and am wondering about what the most recommended/best feeding options are. Currently it is eating bloodworms, hikari cichlid staple and hikari cichlid gold. Have noticed its huge mouth so was wondering what best live feeders would be. Yabbies and crickets seem inviting, but I'm open to all recommendations.

Thanks! :)

High quality pellet is always best as the main food source. Hikari staple not real good, gold is better. I prefer Omega1 and Northfin. Crickets, earthworms, mealworms are good live foods. Do not feed live aquatics. The risk of parasite transfer is too high and nutritional value is very low. My male Jag( 13-14in) likes Hikari Massivore, chunks of raw tilapia, raw shrimp(not tiger prawns). Freeze dried goods are great. Krill, tubifex worms, brine shrimp. A good addition to all your Jag's feed is Boyd's VitaChem. Its a liquid vitamin supplement. A few drops on pellets for a few minutes, marinate fd food overnight in a sealed container in the fridge. The odd bit of veg matter, not as much as say an Oscar or Severum should have, but some sort of veg offering once a week. A spirulina based pellet or kelp flakes. At 5ins feed once a day, when he hits 8ins at about a year or so of age, feed every 2nd day.

They don't need feeders but they are appreciated. Mine is particularly fond of extra large crickets. Best food is a mix of good quality pellet (nls, hikari) and some meats such as tilapia or shrimp

Just curious, why not Tiger prawns?

At 5" I would replace 1 meal a week with small crickets & meal worms. Rest of the time pellets. Keep it simple.

Mine never accepted pellets regularly no matter what. I feed tilapia pc's stuffed with nls thera a but I wouldn't suggest that route.

my 2/3 inch jag doesnt eat pellets anymore... i wonder what else i can feed him so he eats!.. only thing he is eating right now is frozen blood worms/brine shrimp.. but i dont want to make that his daily feeding... hmm

The frozen is very low in nutritional value. You hear quite a few people complain about small Jags being very picky eaters. Been there. You should maybe try some freeze drieds, way higher protein. FD krill, tubifex worms, mealworms. Maybe chop up a big earthworm, the blood and guts in the water may entice him to grab some. Even at the size of my big male, he still wont eat everything on the menu. He has always liked chunks of tilapia and shrimp though.
