I have a fluval 404 and a sump on mine. Is the tank drilled?

fluval 404 all the way..its on ebay for 86.00 free shipping great filter. The ehiem is over priced and according to fish store owners i know (4) dont know why people go crazy for them. The 404's i have easy to clean pops on and off and you can buy replacement parts when you need it.I have some running 7 yrs with no problems.

I have a Eheim 2217 on my 75 Gallon tank and it has kept my tank as clean as a whistle!

Well of course as long as you keep up with your regular water changes and maintenance of the tank you will be ok pretty much with any canister filter that has been mention. (Eheim,Fluval,Whisper etc.)

Whatever you do, dont go with the Emperor 400!!!!!!! Its royally sucks!

If it was me... I'd go with an AC110 and a Eheim 2217... or two AC110's... one filled just with sponges and filter floss, and the other with their bio rings. I (as well as many on this forum) love to overfilter our tanks. You could always start with one filter and add a second later as your bioload increases.

I'd also add some maxi-jet pre-filer sponges to the inlets of the filters. Doing so GREATLY reduces maintenance of the filters as they keep a lot of the bigger gunk (including excess food) out of the main filters. My Julies, Cat's and Plecos do a lot of their feeding right off the pre-filter sponges. I think it was one of the smarter things I've done to my tanks.

Trust me... I'm a doctor...:)

I agree completely, the eheim 2217(currently the best value in cannister filters) and a AC110. I like the prefilter idea for the cannister though I would let the ac110 flow free and do a weekly cleaning of the ac110's sponge along with your weekly w/c.

the cheapest way is to get two penguin 350's from Petsmart for $26 each (online price-match) and fill them with cut-up AC110 foam blocks. that should be enough, at least until the fish get large.

a better way is what the 2 people before me said.

you will need to do bigger water changes, now, or eventually, just dont forget, keep an I on your nitrate levels
