Best filter for a 40 gallon Breeder

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would run 1 70 with sponge and double biomax, and another with double sponges topped off with a little floss.

i dont know how emp or peng are still in buisness. ac is the only way to go. gph cannot be matched. sponges are rinseable, motors are reliable. you can never have too many ac110s. just sayin.

well i got my marineland 350 for 15 bucks and at 350 gph its a way better choice money wise than aquaclear which is about 80 bucks... 70/15=5.3 which means you can get 1750 gph instead of only 500, you just have to shop smart and buy when there on sale. i have never need the aquaclear 110 go on sale and i been around for a while stopping by petmart/petco once a week. But i agree with your choice of taking out the carbon and i just suggest a regular sponge and a more bio media of your choice

I run a Eheim 2217 and a AC50 on my 40B.

I'd use a filstar canister filter(Medium size), I love them! I have a filstar (large) on my 120 with an emperor 400 and 350. It handles my salvini pair (female in avatar), my 1' chocolate cichlid, and some bichirs.

Guess I want be as overkill as you guys with the canister filters. I should be checking out the stand I'm thinking about getting from someone tommorw and will see how a sump would fit as well as hopefully this 40 breeder. Also will see if there are other options I can use as maybe a canister filter...on the smaller side. I will save this thread and look at it better when i checkout the stand. Thanks for all your input!
