Best filter set up for 125 tall

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the AC110's come with a bag of bio-rings and a bag of carbon. I would just keep the carbon and not use it till you need to clear a medical treatment from the tank. Instead by a second bag of the bio-rings. And run the filters with two bags each and the supplied sponge.
When cleaning just rinse the bio-rings in a bucket of tank water along with the sponge. Don't rinse these things in faucet water due to the chlorine will kill your beneficial bacteria.
Bought the second bag of media aswell

If you don’t want the ac110 (which I give high praise to) I use a Fluval FX4 on my 125g (6ftx18inx2ft).

It’s a canister filter so it’s a little pricey and maintenance is something you’ll need to figure out a system for, Fluval provides a great pamphlet with the filter detailing how to empty the filter as well. It’s rated for up to 250g I believe and I only clean it once a month, I could wait longer I just enjoy the cleaning. Water is crystal clear and the filter is extremely reliable and has withstood multiple power failures. You said it’s your first year so it may be a little advanced but it’s probably my favorite piece of equipment. It will leave a lot of wiggle room if you upgrade tanks too, which we all do from time to time.

if you need more info I’ll answer any questions you have! Any video online will give it raving reviews.

I'm new to this as well. How much biohome would I need to fill the bags appropriate for (2) AC110'S

Unfortunately I’m not sure of the size of those bags and it depends on how much biological media you’d like.

For reference I bought 1lb for $26. It filled my FX4 (rated for 250g) with probably 1/3 leftover. The FX4 is much larger than an ac110. Sorry I can’t provide a better more accurate answer ive only ever worked with the small aqua clear models.
