Best fish for a small display tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe you could get a single regani dwarf pike cichlid with plants and hiding spaces. But they don't go great with small schooling fish.

Personally I have found blue eye rainbows ( I have gertrudes) to be stunning and fun to watch :)

I am envisioning soft white sand substrate, varying sizes of rougher rocks stacked with Anubis plants growing out from between the rocks.
With this I am thinking a little group of neon/cardinal tetras, and some Amano shrimp. Active and personable.

I would suggest a nice male betta. Not a schooling fish but they can't be beat for tiny showy fish. I used to keep one with cherry barbs as well, and it never ate or bothered them, so could probably have both. I have heard of bettas eating neons and the like, but I think cherry barbs are too big to eat.

I forgot to mention mom's kinda tired of all the bettas I have and have had, plus she was keen on getting multiple of the things so I'll stick with that

How about this, a couple aphyosemion striatum, and then a single ram? maybe an electric blue or gold to go with the striatum?1376020

Aphyosemion and Rams need vastly different temperatures, most killis (Aphy's included) enjoy temperatures of 77f or lower to really thrive

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, I'll save the rams for later then
Apistogramma live in lower temps, right? how about a single agassizii or cacatuoides? or would they be too aggressive for the aphyosemion
