Best fish for "making money"?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
black rays will give you good money, but its a big upfront investment. but be careful, you might offend some the of vendors here

Yup discus for sure would be a good idea. But like it was said before breeding fish is not easy and will become a full time job if you are going to do it right.

But if you just let then breed and don't fuss over it then sell what ever fry you had left. You could make the tank pay for it's self.

Red cherry shrimp, or crystal red shrimp. Could churn them out of 220 gallons. I've seen them go for as much as $5.50 each locally.

ahhh yes, forgot about these guys! red cherries sell for about $1, crystals for a lot more. give them the right conditions and theyll breed like rabbits. you can make a killing, especially if you get into the rarer shrimps. heck, even collecting/selling driftwood will make you some money

Rays, just don't overprice the pups like most people do, or you'll have them all forever.

Alot of people seem to be saying rays, don't get me wrong I would love a pair of rays, but I don't think they would breed in a 24 in wide tank. Am I right? The tank is 72 in long x 24 wide x 30.5 tall. I would like something that I would be able to rear they fry in the tank and once they are sizeable just sell them, thats why I was thinking fronts, I dont think this would be possible with discus would it? Although I might strip the front and put it back in. You get what I mean I dont want to have to pair off the fish to breed in seperate tanks or take the mother or father out to rear the young in a different tank. Oh and thanks for the shrimp idea I might do that in one of my smaller tanks though.

I'm looking into breeding stingrays. But not for the money to start off. I am just starting to pick up rays and I realize it will be years probably before they are even breeding or mating or anything. Down the road I would love to be a breeder and sell them, but for now i'm just wanting to do it because I love those fish and it would be a site to see! Good luck. If you want something quick and easy try breeding a cichlid of some sort lol. They reproduce like rabbits!

Only problem with breeding big cichlids is that selling the fry barely covers paying for feeding the parents. I've seen some people that get a few pars of convicts and sell the fry as feeders so the go fast but you still gonna make very little.
