best fish to control thread algae?

American Flag Fish, Jordanella floridae.

They make quick work of hair algae and they may also eat plants in a planted aquarium.

Its the only fish I can think of that really eats hair algae, but like the quote says your plants may take a beating as well. Some individuals can be rather aggressive to boot. Your best bet is managing it yourself

will the hydrogen peroxide affect the water quality and the fishes?

yeah im cutting down on the light time right now and see what happens in a week of doing it.
i it used to deal with hair algae when i had it in my tank and i never saw any negative issues. i had to treat about 2-3 times. now the hair algae is gone and hasnt popped up since

i bought 2 chinese algae eaters yesterday and i havent seen them go to my plants yet and eat them.

What are the difference between siamese and the chinese one?
You're buying the wrong fish. CAE are nasty fish when they mature. They stop eating algae once they hit a mark of 6 inches and begin to harass other fish sucking their slime coat as their protein source.

Here's the thread that will help you distinguish the SAEs and CAEs.

As for my stock list, i have a semi planted tanks...

Fishes: 3 parrots, 2 sevs, 1 uaru, 1 african leapoard leaf fish. a few loaches

Plants: mainly melon swords, and some other swords.

Lights: 1 48inch 2tube T5fixture. and a 48 inch colar life double light fixture (it's not the t5 ones but the ones that comes with the blue/white lights) sorry im a newbie at lights.

Ferts: those sticks you stick in near the roots
You'll need adult SAEs here but SAEs really eat hair algae only when there are no other food alternatives available. I had mine finished off the last BBA when I did not give all my fish foods for a week as I was off for a vacation.

i dont think youll find many living things that will be willing to eat hair algae. use a syringe and squirt the thread algae with hydrogen peroxide for a few days. it will wither up and die quickly. but, it will come back if your conditions arent right.

you need to fix the underlying problem rather than treat the algae itself
:iagree:

American flagfish are indeed aggressive, particularly the males. I don't see them coexisting peacefully with uarus and severums. They'll likely nip and harass those cichlids constantly.
