i would say prawn but not to much of it because it cause cloudy eye, sticks are good help keep the food expense down. I would go with a variety of food like nightcrawlers, cricket, meal worm, and the list goes on.

Prawn doesn't cause cloudy eye. :grinno: Poor water causes cloudy eye :D

varied diet shrimps and pellets would be good...

pallets would be hikari but mine does not eat it...tried to make he starve for a week bt no good respond! nw feeding them mealworm+koi fish..shrimp sometimes bt make sure remove the shell if the aro still young!

^I'm the same. my RTG will not touch sticks. I feed it Market shrimp and worms that come from bamboo i think. I'm going to start farming crickets too.
Man arowan's are a pain in the ***, I never should've got myself in to this, keeping smaller fish was easy!!
I'm hooked now though.

Why not live feeder fish?

Feeder fish are typically not well looked after and can carry parasites/bacteria, contain very little in terms of nutrients and are way more expensive in the long run. Most pellets/aro sticks are high in vitamins and nutritious and don't spread parasites to your fish.

^ that depends on where you live. In Asia feeders are cheaper than hikari sticks.
If you've got anotherr tank to keep feeders in only you can treat them, fill them up and give your aro good feeders.
Obviously it means you've another tank to maintain though.

market prawns,meal worm,earth worm

hai feng ever nature pellets. or aquamaster pellets. i like to soak my pellets first. if you are able to get them to eat it, you are good to go. its created with variety of nutrients with immune booster. believe it or not i stuff meal worms with the pellets to let it get use to it. whatever works right!!??

Prawn or market shrimp does not cause cloudy eyes, it's mostly due to poor water conditions.

SW causes poppy eyes or drop eye due to their high fat content(if SW were only staple)

I wouldn't recommend crickets, since once your aro gets addicted by them it won't take anything but crickets.

Hope this helps,
