I have a spare 50 gallon was looking to raise some food for my fahaka but what's better for him ramshorn snails or marbled crayfish?

Crayfish would be better. apple snails are better then ram horns

If you can find Asolene spixi they're easier to raise IME because you don't have to incubate their egg clutches like the apple snails eggs.

I raise crayfish, blue ram horns, all sorts of different coloured apple snails and spixi snails for my puffer. Crayfish are favored by it.

A 50gal won't be enough to grow large amounts of crayfish they'll be crammed and eat each other after they molt.

you could add a bunch of pvc pipes about 4 inches long to shelter them, its not so visually appealing but it provides great housing. you tube Breeding marbled cray and you may learn something new, either or, if done right, it be a great staple diet, gutloaded.

Just some food for thought: If you have a means to get a hold of live crawfish for the food industry, that would be a better and cheaper means of feeding your puffer than in raising them, yourself. I doubt, for example, that you could raise enough crawfish to solely support an adult Fahaka unless you had a pretty vast aquaculture setup going.

I buy 50-60lbs. of live crawfish each season, then freeze them all to get me through the year. Not expensive and more importantly, no hassle to maintain...
