best foods to fatten up small bichers

mine gorges on bloodworms and I saw him doing the death roll on a peice of tilapia intended for my catfish the other day. What size should he be before I try him with rosy reds(he's only about 3" now). Also mine wont touch pellets, They are small sinking cichlid pellets and larger shrimp pellets in the tank and he doesnt care about any, but the minute a bloodworm hits the tank zoom...omnomnomnomnom.

The way i discovered to get poly's to take pallets is to mix the pallets with the blood worms(as that is what he recognizes as food). Mix about 5pallets first then slow reduce the blood worms and increase the pallets. The reason why he does not eat the pallet is to simply put it is that he does not think its food. In maybe about a week he will take a pallet that smells like blood worm and by the next week or two he will learn that pallets are food. I would also recommend feeding massivore pallet from Hikari as it is made carnivorousness fish. My babies currently on a diet of mainly massivore pallets,hake,lance fish,blood worms,feeder guppies/swords.

Why no goldfish to a bichir or is that just young bichirs I saw one web site and that was what they were feeding them. I have a saddled bichir in a 200g 4x4 tank with 5 gouramis and some convicts that just hatched out a batch about 2 or 3 weeks ago I thought he would eat the cons at night but he doesnt touch them. It seems like nothing will eat baby cons do they taste bad or what because I believe the bichir could almost eat the parents.

I feed my poly's gold fish and if they are small enough i will feed them to my baby poly's. Gold can carry diseases but i have never had any problem with them. Alot of people say gold fish are not good for fish due to this. Which is very true and that why i have a quarantine tank for my feeders. I buy a few and leave them in there for about two weeks and treat them with a general aid(all in one) and salt.But i love fish that eat other fish and enjoy watching them hunt for fish. I only feed my fish feeder once in a while.

Disease is not the only reason to not feed goldfish they also have very little to no nutritional value and are packed with Thiaminase a diet of high thiaminase foods can cause anything from poor growth to death(in severe cases).....A better alternative is Livebearers gut loaded NO Thiaminase in them nor do Cichlids....I feed Pellets to all my polys with silversides and Krill with added Thiamin along with bloodworms and the occaisional feeder guppie or convict(which they don't eat). My one word of advice for ANY piscivorous fish avoid goldfish

I agree, forgot to add the nutrition part. As for the Thiaminase in gold fish you are right but in alot of places live other fish are much more expensive than feeder gold fish, as i said i only feed my fish gold fish once in while,therefore i dont think the risk is too high. If you were feeding your fish only gold fish as its stable diet then it be a totally different story.

I just started giving my little 3 inch guy chicken livers....he eats them like no tomorrow.
