Best foods to feed peacock bass when young

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In my experience, little ones are fed live (blackworms and feeder fish) until they get 6" to 7". This ensures fast growth. Keep in mind I'm old school though. A lot of these younger guys seem to never feed live at all.

wow... "i m old school" roar... im a old bird you should listen to the wise old man ! roar ! But in any case...

Heard people fed non-live all the way and still grows fast. get a huge pack of feeders ... feed them only once a week...

for my case i give up converting them coz i listen to "OLD SCHOOL" people.
being doing for 3 weeks and one still one eat a pellet. haha... sad.
So i just fed my feeders with pellets till t heir all fat then i fed them feeders once every 2-3 days...

Tryign hikari major stick on them now :o

Mix it up with tilapia, feeders, krill, blackworms, etc. If they take bloodworms and feeders getting them to eat other frozen food should be a breeze, pellets will be tricky but good luck.

If you can get em to eat pellets or sticks, better for you. Also, cichla that eat pellets and other prepared foods are way easier to sell than ones stuck on live. If you don't know the risks of feeding live, then you should start doing some research. Don't want to be posting in the disease section...

I am not saying that live is a terrible thing. When I received my wild caught kelberi pbass they wouldn't touch anything that was not alive. I had no choice but to fatten them up with live food. I envy people with kelberis that smash pellets and/or other prepared foods! Only since yesterday, did I start feeding them fresh frozen feeders (discovered they would take a dead feeder), to help start the process of converting them to prepared foods using Diesel Mac's method.

Live is the easiest way to feed a pbass. However, I would suggest honing and perfecting your skills on acclimating pbass to take pellets and/or prepared foods. There are some very very rare, pricey, and one of a kind pbass out there and the skills to feed them safely may be beneficial to you someday. Best wishes!

yeah i had a peacock bass before fattened him up till 7 inches with feeders the jack dempsey got a little crazy and beat him up over the night. but i dont want to use feeders again i only did that before because he only ate goldfish and now bloodworms

fed mine with catfish when he's that small... somehow in sg cant really find tilapia of the small size... usually bait size for fishing... and dont really recommend using tilapia even thou their hardy XD... their really sharp

Mine is like 6-7 inches and all he will eat is live minnows
