Best grow tank idea?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
because you have EBJD's I wouldn't do bare bottom. Every issue I have had with them has been stress. They need a place to hide or they will stress and stop eating. As far as which would speed up growth in general I don't know I think if you keep on top of water changes they would be equal.

Thank you rivers 2 k thats the answer I was looking for ive had them sense march and there only 4 inches and I got them at about 1 - 11/2 inches is this normal growth rate thays 7 or 8 months it seems all they really want to eat is blood worms

I'm not a fan of bare tanks but temp tanks are an exception. In all my temp tanks I always put decor in for hiding...even with goldfish or non shy fish. If you are planning on keeping the tank running for other fish later, I'd put gravel in. If you are going to shut the tank down and store it away in another month, personally I would not add gravel.

I would/will always go with bare bottom in any growout tank. I am growing out a green severum and a BGK in a bare bottom right now, and both are doing very well. Also, bare bottom does not mean no decorations or hiding spots. You can provide just as much cover in a bare bottom tank as you could with any substrate. It is just more practical to avoid dealing with substrate in an aquarium that isn't a "show" tank anyway. Unless it is for burrowing fish, I think substrate does more for the viewer than the fish.
